Let Your Creativity Shine – Spring and Summer Art Workshops
With the arrival of spring and the start of warmer weather, it’s a great time to get out and try something new. Whether you’re an experienced artist or simply enjoy getting creative, The Horton offers a variety of different workshops and courses with something for everyone living within the local community. We aim to establish an enriching environment for those searching for a creative outlet or a change up from their everyday routine.
This April, our resident tutor Steve Trimm will be running a full day Life Painting Studio. Open to everyone of all abilities, experience an inspiring day observing and capturing the human form through initial warm up exercises to an overall completed, long-pose painting.
Alternatively, if you are new to painting and drawing from life, you may want to try out Steve’s Life Drawing Taster Session. This hour long course offers an introduction to the different elements and artistic techniques of life drawing. You’ll be coming away with a new found creative confidence, having absorbed the fundamentals of how to capture a true to life composition.
If you’re looking for an extended course to develop your skills more in depth, The Horton Sketchbook Club provides you with the tools to build up your own personal sketchbook. Over the 5 weeks, you’ll learn a wide range of techniques such as marbling, block printing and typography whilst observing and interpreting nature and still life studies.
We’re also looking ahead to the summer months with plenty of unique opportunities to try out new techniques. Our Photo Plaque Sculpture Workshop in June uses three dimensional concepts and layering techniques to develop a character face as a wall plaque.
Or, if experimental photography processes are more your thing, our upcoming Cyanotype Workshop could be for you. Working as a type of photogram, objects are placed onto paper and exposed under ultraviolet light to produce a stunning blue image.
We’re also offering an Introduction to Printmaking in August where participants will learn a range of printing techniques including Drypoint, Acid Etching and Engraving.
