Memory Book Workshop with Maria Walker

POSTPONED

Create a unique and beautiful Memory Book to display a treasured personal item in this full-day workshop.

The day will begin with a short tour of Maria Walker’s exhibition in the Atrium by the artist herself, where you will see examples of Memory Books that she has created.

You will learn how to transform an old hardback book to create a place to store or display your keepsakes. The inside of the book can be further decorated with fabric, lace or paper. The outside of the book can also be decorated if desired.

Using cutting and glueing techniques, this workshop is suitable for beginners.

All equipment and materials are provided but if you would like to bring in your own book, it must be hardback and at least 2.5cm thick.

Do bring along the precious item you wish to display or keep inside the book.

Maria Walker’s Exhibition: These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things will be running from the 4th – 23rd January.

This workshop will take place in our mezzanine studio which is fully accessible. There will be a short lunch break.

Lunch can be pre-ordered in our café on arrival.

About The Tutor
Maria Walker is a Surrey-based textile artist and has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions around Britain. She uses her experience of being human to inspire her textile art and installations.

She gathers together diverse objects and materials which she combines with cloth and stitch to tell stories through her artwork often creating unusual juxtapositions.

Memory and narrative are important threads which run through her art practice. She is particularly interested in everyday life and is a collector of many things: from old photographs and snippets of overheard conversations to vintage household paraphernalia and discarded shopping lists.

Maria has a Masters Degree in Fine Arts.
