The Horton arts centre in Epsom, Surrey is looking to recruit a group of young people aged 10-18 to help design what we offer and plan for the future.
What’s it all about?
The Horton is a brand new independent venue for arts, heritage and events due to open in 2021, and we want young people from the local area to have a say in how we do things and the activities we offer.
A new group – The Horton Young Creatives – will be given unique opportunities to get involved in this special project and take part in free creative activities with professional artists. This might be anything from creating bespoke trainer ‘sculptures’ or designing t-shirts that raise awareness of an issue that is meaningful to the group, to planning a pop-up event at The Horton that friends and family can come along to.
Who can apply?
You don’t need to be a great artist to join The Horton Young Creatives – just someone who enjoys looking at things a little differently and using your imagination. This project is all about young people making choices, and the team at The Horton listening to what they have to say.
If you are a young person who is creative and interested in getting involved – or you are the parent or carer of someone who is – please tell us a little bit more about yourself through on our application survey.
What we are looking for
Spaces for this group are very limited so do let us know why you would like to join. Tell us about things you are interested in, and any challenges you have faced in making regular creative activities part of your life.
We want to make sure young people from different parts of Epsom & Ewell, and from a variety of backgrounds, are represented and able to make a positive difference in our community.
You will be invited to in-person and some online sessions over the next few months, arranged to best suit the people in the group. We can help with public transport costs if that’s an issue and families will not need to pay any money for equipment or materials.
Applications are now closed
The closing date is Wednesday 30th June and applications received after this date cannot unfortunately be considered.
For those who aren’t offered a place, there will be lots of activities for children, young people and families at The Horton when we open, so if you wish be kept informed about what’s on, and the announcement of our opening date, please subscribe to our mailing list.
You can see our privacy policy here – your details will only be used to contact you if you are successful in being shortlisted for a place in the group.
