Summer Drama Course with Scoot Theatre
1st – 4th August
9.45am- 3.45pm
Join Scoot Theatre Company for an exciting four day Summer Drama Course for 11-16 year-olds , running from 1-4th August in The Horton’s Performance Space.
Guided by a leading theatre industry professional, participants will explore devising, puppetry, speech writing, rhetoric, working as an ensemble, improvisation and more.
The varied course focuses on developing the “soft skills” of resilience and growth mindset through drama. Participants will be working in a small group of up to 12 young people.
Participants are encouraged to attend the whole course but are free to book specific days.
The course open to all regardless of experience and there are just three rules: Be Kind, Be Bold and Be Yourself.
- Day One
Team Building/Ensemble work. Developing trust through devising and improvising as a group. Also covering chorus work. - Day Two
Public speaking. Covering the basics of rhetoric, constructing convincing arguments as well as practical skills – voice and physical working on engaging an audience and delivering effectively. - Day Three
Resilience. Creating and devising with puppets and masks, focusing on the importance of “failure” as a necessary step towards “success”. - Day Four
Creation Day. Putting everything we’ve learned together in a piece devised by the participants.
“I’m so grateful for Scoot – what they offer is important, especially to shy children or those struggling with social skills – but most of all it’s creative and fun.” Parent of Scoot Youth Member
