Discovering The Story Of Your Home
Every home has a history. Whether it is a terraced house in the town centre, a semi in the suburbs, or a flat in a converted property, there will be a story to tell about the land it is built upon, the builders who constructed it, changes to its shape and fabric by later extensions and renovations and the diverse families and people who have lived it – some for generations, others for just a couple of years.
Anyone who has enjoyed watching David Olusaga’s recent fascinating studies of individual homes in the BBC series ‘A House Through Time’ will have wondered what stories about their own homes might be discovered through archival research. This talk discusses how to approach an investigation of your own home’s history and some of the sources will start you off on that journey.
