Comedy at The Horton – October
Friday 20th October, 8pm
A bumper night of stand-up comedy, we bring you the best that the UK stand-up comedy circuit has to offer.
This months fun and merriment provided by James Dowdeswell, Charmain Hughes, Mark Cram and your headliner Mike Cox.
Please note the line-up has been amended, Keith Farnan has now been replaced with the brilliant James Dowdeswell and Sikisa with the hilarious Charmian Hughes.
Charmian Hughes
“The best gags” The Independent | “Brilliant” What’s on in London
“Charming ribaldry” The Guardian
Charmian started out her working life in Advertising- but after her triumphant thrush remedy slogan ‘When your c**t can’t, C*n*stan can’ offended the client instead of delighting them, she found herself catapulted into the world of stand-up comedy.
Classes in clowning and circus followed, including with renowned French mime guru Philippe Gauliere, where for under a thousand pounds, Charmian learnt the art of gurning and breaking wind simultaneously, to the maestro’s cries of ‘Merde’.
Since then Charmian has travelled the world!
James Dowdeswell
James headlines comedy clubs around the UK and is also highly sought after as an MC. His comedy is erudite, off the cuff and clean. He has worked all over the world from Shanghai to Slovakia, Malta to Melbourne.
He turned professional after winning the Jongleurs New Act Of The Year Award in 2000.
James is the author of The Pub Manifesto: A Comedian Stands Up For Pubs. This was published by CAMRA Books in November 2018. It was nominated for The Guild Of British Beer Writers Award for The Long Live The Local Award for Best Book On Pubs 2019. It was name-checked as one of the best Christmas books by a comedian in The London Evening Standard.
Mike Cox
“Like an Everyman, if that Everyman had delicious cynicism and razor sharp wit.” Romesh Ranganathan
“Mike has the sharpness of any highbrow comic, but with the wealth of material to appeal to the Everyman with ease. A refreshing and hilarious act to watch and work with.” Dane Baptiste
Mike has quickly made his mark on the comedy scene with his sharp witted observational style which saw him crowned South Coast Comedian of the Year in 2014 as well as making the final of the prestigious Amused Moose Laugh Off in 2016.
He can be seen at comedy clubs up and down the UK.
Mark Cram
“A Masterclass in comedy design” Newbury Weekly News
Mark is quite the all-rounder; with both a killer set and strong MCing chops. For the last few years Mark has been plying his comedy trade across the UK. Constantly evolving, usually unpredictable; he is garnering positive reactions everywhere he goes.
Mark thrills crowds with his tales of dead-end jobs, his family and being the less than grateful winner of Bedford Comedian of the Year.
