Breezes of Spain (Brisas de España)

Exquisite performance combining piano and dance, bringing to life forgotten works of Spanish-influenced classical composer and virtuoso pianist Óscar de la Cinna.
Enjoy an intimate experience ‘in the round’ in the stunning architectural setting of The Horton’s Performance Space.

In this new programme, artistic director Antonio Hernandez Moreno has researched and revived dramatic works by Óscar de la Cinna (Budapest 1836–Jerez de la Frontera 1906), and curated a programme full of traditional Spanish heritage.
The Brisas de España (Breezes of Spain) concert premiered in Madrid in February 2024. The performance at The Horton will be their first in the UK.

Discover the history of the composer and his music in a special talk by Artistic Director Antonio Hernandez Moreno.
Being musically educated Prague, Warsaw and Vienna, and a peer of fellow student of Franz Liszt, Óscar de la Cinna moved to Spain as piano tutor to the Spanish Royal family, before finally settling in Andalucia. There he was influenced by Spanish folk songs and Moorish dance music.

The Artists:
Jose Vincente Riquelme
Acclaimed Spanish pianist who studied at the Superior Conservatory of Murcia.
As a soloist, he has given recitals throughout Europe, including Spanish Season at The Horton in 2022 and 2023.
Yoel Vargas
Award-winning graduate of Spanish Dance from the Institut del Teatre, Dance Conservatory, Barcelona.
He has toured cities around the world; New York, Miami, London, Mexico City, Bogotá, among others, as well as Spanish Season at The Horton in 2023.
