The winner of The Horton Summer Exhibition People’s Choice Award is Kath Macdiarmid.
Her piece “Life. Time.” depicts a self-portrait. After 25 years of being a carer for her autistic son, her life is starting to transform as he has left home. She now looks to the future. The background of the work is layered with codes of practice documents, Makaton singing and handwritten notes.
In Kath’s words: “I’m absolutely amazed to have won the people’s choice for this year’s Summer Exhibition at The Horton. My self-portrait was an extremely personal piece of work and I’m so touched that people felt a connection with it. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me.”
