We are delighted to have been awarded a Heritage For All grant of £9,756 by Community Foundation for Surrey.
This will enable us to undertake projects and activities that we would not normally be able to carry out and help us to recruit and training new volunteers to support the work of our small staff team in sharing our important history.
Volunteers are such an important part of what we do at The Horton. We will be offering more opportunities and training people of different ages and backgrounds to share the importance of their local heritage – and its relevance to society and the way we view mental health today.
Director Maria Reeves said: “The history of mental health is not always easy to interpret and can be very emotional for some people with lived experience. Visitors to The Horton often want to talk about their own recollections of the past. This grant will help us to develop new ways to connect with people – and support amazing volunteers who are committed to make their community a better, more inclusive place for everyone.”
Volunteering can help people at all stages of their lives to build self-confidence on their journeys – getting a first job, returning to the workplace, in recovery or to learn new skills that can be used for a career.
We will be working on developing new opportunities – so if you are interested, do join our mailing list or ask at our Welcome Desk to find out more.
