Are you passionate about local history and stories from our diverse communities?
At The Horton, we want to improve our visitor experience and share our heritage with a wider group of people by providing training to our volunteers on the heritage of our building and site, so they can be ambassadors of our charity.
We want more people to discover our fascinating history and the stories of those who lived and worked here.
The Horton in Epsom has an important history of national significance in mental health care and music therapy. The former Horton Asylum Chapel was built in 1901 and is grade II listed. The organisation that now runs the site as a cultural venue is an independent charity.
We are open to the public five days per week and at least one evening per week. The Horton attracted around 35,000 visitors last year – attending music and theatre performances, exhibitions and workshops, visiting the café-bar and gardens or to explore our permanent exhibition on the unique history of mental health care in Epsom.
