Community Bulb Planting

Community Bulb Planting

Tuesday 28th October, 10:30am – 3pm

We need your help to create a colourful spring display at The Horton.

Following our successful community tree planting day last winter, where with the support of our local community we planted 1,500 English hedgerow trees around the partimater of the Gardens, we are again asking for your support to help bring our gardens to life.

Community bulb planting is the next stage of the vision for The Horton Gardens, which is being supported by Surrey Gardens Trust.

Simply come along on Tuesday 28th October between 10:30am and 3pm, bring along either crocuses or daffodil bulbs if you can – the more the better. If you are able to bring your own bulb planter or trowel it will help us plant even more. The whole family can get involved.

If you’re unable to make the day or physically help with the planting then we would welcome any donations of bulbs.

Sarah Dickinson, chair of Surrey Gardens Trust said:
“We recently visited and were delighted to see how our grant will make a difference, with bulbs being carefully placed throughout the wildflower areas, setting the stage for a colourful spring display. Our Small Grants Scheme helps to fund projects at sites of historic interest in Surrey. The aim is to help bring these places to life through greater public engagement. The Horton is a perfect example of the kind of place that can benefit – a site in Surrey with great historic value, a building of special architectural historic interest and an important public amenity.”

Johnny Dowden, Facilities coordinator at The Horton said
“The support we got for the tree planting last year made such a difference, helping us to bring the gardens to life and offer new habitats for animals. Planting bulbs ahead of Spring next year will not only give us a wonderful garden to enjoy but again builds biodiversity into our gardens, doing our small part to support wildlife. It’s a wonderful atmosphere when everyone gets together and we really appreciate the input and help from everyone.”
