Why leave us a gift in your will?
Gifts in wills enable us to carry on maintaining The Horton, with its important history of mental health care for the benefit of the community.
If you are planning on leaving us a gift in your will, we are truly grateful.
As we are registered charity, all gifts to us are exempt from inheritance tax.
If 10% or more of the net value of your estate is left to registered charities, the rate of any inheritance tax on your estate is reduced from 40% to 36%. If you think this may be relevant to you, we recommend you discuss this with a legal professional, such as solicitor.
Three different kind of gifts you can leave in your will are:
A residuary gift is a gift of all or a percentage of your estate after the payment of debts, costs, legacies, and tax. Unlike a fixed sum of money, a residuary gift won’t devalue over time.
A pecuniary gift is a gift of a fixed sum of money from your estate.
A specific gift is a gift of a particular item, such as a property or a piece of art.
How To Make A Will
Always have your will written by a legal professional, such as a solicitor. We have partnered with Peacock & Co Solicitors, based in Epsom and Wimbledon who have kindly agreed to donate 10% of their fee for each will drafted if you mention us when booking. If you would like to support us in this way, please call 0208 944 5290 or send an email to [email protected].
Suggested Wording For Your Gift
Your solicitor will be able to best advise you how gifts should be left to us. However, we have included some suggested wording for pecuniary and residuary gifts below. If you would like to leave us a specific gift, we recommend you discuss this with your solicitor first.
