Traditional Fan Making Workshop
Wednesday 19th June, 11am-3:30pm
Did you know that Fan Making is listed as a ‘Critically Endangered Craft in the UK’ and is at risk of becoming completely extinct?
Discover the art of Fan Making in this very special workshop. Step into a world of creativity and craftsmanship with professional Fan Maker Victoria Ajoku.
In this workshop, you will gain fascinating insights into the history of fans, the intricate methods of how they’re made and will construct three hand-fans of different styles to take home.
Fan Making is an ancient craft that traditionally used sticks and papered leaves. The making process has a therapeutic rhythm that brings many art methods and cultures into the mix.
In this one-day workshop, the tutor will instruct and encourage the exploration of sketching, design and decorating. Participants will also learn the traditional fan-crafting techniques of paper pleating and mounting procedures.
In addition, you will enjoy Victoria’s demonstrational elements of fan performance.
This session is suitable for every level of ability. All materials and tools will be provided. And you will be able to take home three fan creations to use on hot days, social gatherings or to decorate your home as pieces of artwork.
