Lost Railways of The Epsom Hospital Cluster – History Talk
Saturday 11th May, 12 noon
Find out the fascinating history of the railways built to aid the construction of Epsom’s asylums, as they were known in the early twentieth century, and the lines built to serve the huge operation of the hospitals’ infrastructure as a largely self-sufficient community.
Epsom & Ewell’s Countryside Manager, Stewart Cocker, will explain the interesting history of both the Ewell and Long Grove Light Railways used to construct Long Grove Hospital and the later Horton Light
Railway and reveal where to spot signs of these lost lines in the current local landscape.
The talk will be illustrated by a selection of photographs taken both pre and post war.
