Inspired by Nature Outdoor Art Workshop
Wednesday 18th June, 10am – 3pm
Join artist Claire Chandler for a creative journey, exploring the nature and beauty of The Horton Gardens. As the grounds are not yet open, you will gain special access to observe and sketch the flowers, trees and landscape.
Using pencils and concertina sketchbooks, Claire will guide you through a series of drawing exercises ‘en plein air’ that will challenge and encourage you to see nature in a different light. You will be moving to different areas of the gardens during the session. Gazebo cover will be provided for shade and shelter, if required.
The mezzanine workshop studio room will also be at your disposal to head inside and use a variety of water-soluble media and water pens to enhance your drawings.
All welcome – from beginners to advanced and everything in between.
All art materials will be provided – including a concertina sketchbook to take home.

Meet The Tutor:
Claire Chandler is a contemporary abstract painter and art tutor based in Carshalton, Surrey, who has exhibited widely throughout the world. She has been shortlisted for the Marshwood Arts Award (2019) and Celeste Art Prize, took part in the Arts Travel Award to Quimper.
Claire graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Northumbria with the Terry Stephenson Purchase Prize.
She says: “The moment you pick up a pencil with the intention to sketch, you start noticing more beauty, colour and wonder. Drawing the landscape is at the heart of my work, and this is where I begin, working on location. I find that drawing ‘en plein air’ is a more solid way of absorbing the sense of place, the sounds and the calm I feel when I am surrounded by nature.”
Claire has paintings in private collections worldwide, including New York, Singapore, Paris and Hong Kong.

The Horton Café will be open from 9:15am to 4pm for refreshments. Lunch can also be pre-ordered on arrival if required.
