Epsom Common Association Exhibition – Past, Present & Future
Tuesday 19th – Saturday 30th November
This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Epsom Common Association. It was started by a group of residents concerned about abuses, such as driving cars and dumping rubbish on the Common.
This exhibition celebrates the work of the association with photos, maps and documents. Showcasing why the Common is such a special place, and how people can help preserve and improve it.
Overt the last fifty years Epsom Common Association have developed a range of volunteer activities which every year includes: a programme of countryside management; making around three hundred bags of charcoal; checking the cattle four days each week during the grazing season; as well as walks, talks and newsletters.
Other achievements include: the restoration of Great Pond; two further recent pond projects; publication of the “Epsom Common” booklet; and several Epsom Common Days. All activities are in partnership with Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, which owns and manages the Common, a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest.
