Chinese Brush Painting – Bamboo for Beginners
Tuesday 12th March, 10.30am – 3pm
Bamboo, which bends without breaking, is an iconic and symbolic feature in Chinese art. As a symbol of integrity and strength, it was featured in many important artworks produced by scholar-painters in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
In this full-day workshop you will learn how to use Chinese brushes to paint bamboo the traditional way, write a Chinese word, and gain an insight into Chinese culture.
Experienced tutor Angela Reich will help you to enjoy this unique art form. Anyone can learn – no previous art experience is needed.
All materials and equipment will be provided.
The workshop will be led by experienced tutor Angela Reich.

Meet The Tutor
Angela Reich has studied Chinese Brush Painting (CBP) for over 30 years, learning
from many Chinese artists in the UK and in China, visiting China several times
to sketch the landscape and flowers.
She paints in both the freehand and meticulous styles, and also practices
Chinese calligraphy. The freehand style is simple and spontaneous, using only a
few brush strokes to evoke the subject, or the season. The meticulous court
style is elegant and realistic, using subtle washes.
Angela is Chair of the Chinese Brush Painting Society, the UK national network
for this fascinating art.
