Arts For Impact – Double your Donation for One Week Only

Arts For Impact – Double your Donation for One Week Only

The Horton is delighted to be taking part in a very special fundraising campaign this month – (17th – 24th March) where every pound donated to our charity, will be doubled by Big Give’s charity Champions.

We are aiming to raise £3,250 in one week for The Horton – which would be matched to total £7,500!

£7,500 total could fund…….

  • Enriching creative experiences for children and families, including an outdoor summer programme.
  • New opportunities for young people to develop their creative potential – including rehearsal space for young musicians, exhibition opportunities and skills development.
  • Ensure The Horton’s exhibitions and gardens can remain free to access.

The Horton is the only accessible cultural or social venue within walking distance for many households. The arts and creativity have been proven to improve confidence, reduce risky behaviour and improve mental health for children and young people. The Horton provides local creative opportunities that support this self-expression and learning outside formal education.

Every donation made to The Horton through Big Give’s website between 17th and 24th March will be generously doubled…

  • A donation of £5 will become £10
  • A donation of £20 will become £40

Your support will have twice the impact. Your Donation Will Make A Difference

Nurturing Creativity at The Horton

Since opening almost four years ago, The Horton has flourished as a creative community space where everyone is welcome. More than 35,000 visitors a year come now come through our doors. We offer a high-quality arts programme but receive no core funding. We want to provide more accessible, creative opportunities for children and young people – with a programme of activity specifically designed for them.

Maria Reeves, director of The Horton, said: “In the four years since opening we are proud to have hosted a vast array of events offering connection, creativity and joy. Activities for children and families range from first-theatre experiences for babies and toddlers to learning new skills and crafts. We want to ensure more families can attend these events, reaching everyone in our community. Making a donation really will make a difference to what we are able to offer, helping a local charity to thrive and make an impact right here in Epsom.”

What is Big Give?
Big Give is a registered charity, supporting arts and culture charities working to achieve societal impact across the UK via match funding campaigns. Big Give’s Arts for Impact match fund campaign will see the public’s generosity multiplied, as donations to the participating charities will be doubled by generous ‘champions’, typically philanthropists, foundations or companies.

It’s a simple idea, when the public donates to a charity through Big Give, they ask funders to match that donation. So, £50 from a member of the public becomes £100 for a good cause.

Why is The Horton asking for donations?
The Horton is an independent, free to enter arts venue, receiving no core funding or financial support. Income from ticket sales and our café-bar alone do not cover running and maintenance costs and delivering a creative programme.

In 2025 we opened our gardens for the first time, hosting a season of family shows and activities and increasing the number of visitors we can accommodate.

Many disadvantaged children and young people in our local community would greatly benefit from participating in creative activities and attending live performances. Access to arts and cultural experiences can build confidence, support emotional wellbeing, and inspire creativity.

However, without external funding, the cost of programming these activities would require ticket prices that are prohibitively expensive for the families we aim to reach. As a result, many young people who could benefit most from these opportunities are unable to access them.

Over the next year we want to focus on providing more accessible, creative opportunities for children and young people – with a programme of activity specifically designed for them.

This will include an outdoor summer programme – including ticket prices subsided through fundraising, and opportunities for creative talent development for young people who have left school.

Support is therefore needed to subsidise the cost of events and creative programmes, ensuring that children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds can participate fully, regardless of their financial circumstances.
