The Architecture of Epsom’s Hospital Cluster: Rise and Fall 1899 – 2021

Saturday 13th September – Friday 19th September

Heritage Open Days 2025.

View a projected gallery of images charting the architectural journey of Epsom’s historic psychiatric hospital cluster. The Horton is a grade II-listed former chapel with an exhibition about the history of the site.

Five psychiatric hospitals – built between 1899 and 1942, formed Epsom’s historic Hospital Cluster.
Visit The Horton to view a temporary gallery of images charting the rise and fall of the hospitals. From the original architectural plans and photographs of the hospital being built – to the interior detail of the buildings themselves and their abandonment and fall into dereliction and redevelopment.
Visitors can also access the permanent exhibition about the history of the chapel, pioneering mental healthcare and stories of the people who lived and worked in the hospitals.
