The Art of Mosaic Course – SOLD OUT
Thursdays, 11am – 1.30pm
14th September to 5th October
Mosaic is an ancient and wonderful process of making pictures and patterns from small pieces of stone, glass, ceramic and more.
Design, make and finish your own personalised mosaic artwork over four weeks.
This practical four week course is suitable for beginners and those with some mosaic experience.
Each week, tutor Tina de Domingo will guide you through a different stage of the process, from initial ideas, design and sketching on to your board, choosing colours and shapes, cutting and laying glass tiles, right through to grouting your finished piece.
If you have already attended a one-day mosaic workshop, this course will build on the basic skills you learned , giving more opportunity to create and finish a personalised artwork.
All materials and tools will be provided.
However, you may wish to bring pieces such as broken jewellery, pieces of ceramics, etc. to include. Please check with the tutor before using anything like this, to make sure that it is suitable and will not be damaged in the process.
Week 1: Thursday 14th September 11am – 1.30pm | Design your own mosaic
Choose from one of the designs available, or draw your own. If you have a photo you want to use, bring it along. You will learn how to transfer your design onto your board. If time allows, you will select the tiles for your mosaic.
Week 2: Thursday 21st September 11am – 1.30pm | Learn to cut glass tiles
The session starts with learning how to cut glass tiles using nippers. You will then have the rest of the session to select your tiles and work on your mosaic at your own pace. Tina will check in regularly and ensure you are doing well.
Week 3: Thursday 28th September 11am – 1.30pm | Complete the tiling
This week you will continue with your mosaic, cutting and placing your tiles. By the end of the session, all of the tiling will be complete.
Week 4: Thursday 5th October – 11am – 1.30pm | Grouting
Wear old clothes because it gets messy this week. You will learn how to prepare, apply and clean up grout. By the end of the session, your mosaic project will be finished.
