Creative Typography Course
Two week course running on the 16th & 23rd April, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
The tradition of illustrating with type dates back to the earliest documents and books.
In this two-week course, led by Steve Trimm, a professional practising illustrator and graphic designer, you will design and create a piece of conceptual artwork using typographic design and layout.
Attendees are asked to select a quote or piece of poetry that inspires them and bring it along to the class.
Week One – 16th April, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
- Using your quote / poem create and plan your typographic illustration –
quick ideas in sketchbook etc. - Select your type fonts. Create your final typographic trace.
- Create your typographic transfer on typo detail paper ready for application in the second class.
Week Two – 23rd April, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
- Transfer your text onto your selected substrate of your choice, this could be unusual paper stock a beautiful piece of wood, stone, fabric etc.
- Use art media supplied or own to create the final piece that is either 2D or 3D adding illustrative elements to enhance the poem/ narrative, use paint media, collage, stitch embroidery, ink, wax resist etc.
- Present final pieces for open discussion within group.
